Vocational Orientation

The TAFE Taster Courses offered by the Chisholm Institute enable the students to participate in short courses in a range of areas including Hair and Beauty, Hospitality, Panel Beating, and Horticulture.All students involved in the program participate in a Youth Pathways program conducted by Link Employment Dandenong, and visit programs such as Handbrake Turn.Students participate in Resumé Building sessions with Melbourne East Group Training and leave the program with an up-to-date resumé as well as discussing job interview skills.

Community Projects and Involvement

The program operates with several community partnerships thereby increasing the students’ connectedness to our community.The students undertake an environmental involvement program with the City of Greater Dandenong and participate in a Fire Awareness Course with the Dandenong CFA at the South East Fire Services College at Carrum. Students also experiance a range of volunteering opportunities, such as Waverley Industries, Myuna Farm, Southern Cross Care.Students become involved with a large cross section of individuals and organisations in all aspects of the course. Where possible, local facilities and resources are used in the delivery of the program.


A formal graduation ceremony takes place in week eight of the program. The graduation is the culmination of the term’s work and is an event that is celebrated by friends, family, important members of the education and police fraternity as well as many of the people that have been involved in the delivery of the program.To graduate from the program the students need to adhere to a strict set of guidelines which basically involve full participation in the course.Students are followed up with school visits and phone calls post program for a period of two years.
